Epson XP-440 Reset Waste Ink Counter
The service-required message on Epson XP-440 often relates to the internal waste ink counter rather than an empty cartridge or paper fault. The steps below help you confirm and resolve that condition.
Why the ink pad counter blocks Epson XP-440
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson XP-440 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson XP-440. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson XP-440
Correct preparation protects the reset key from being used during a failed communication attempt. Verify each requirement before selecting Reset.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for XP-440 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson XP-440 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson XP-440.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson XP-440 is not detected
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
- Clear paused print jobs and restart both the printer and Windows if another program is holding the USB connection.
- Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
