The problem

Why Canon MB5020 reports an absorber error

The absorber pads collect ink generated during print-head cleaning. Canon MB5020 tracks those maintenance cycles in memory rather than measuring the pads directly.

Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Canon MB5020. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.

Reset the counter in Canon MB5020

The counter reset normally takes only a few minutes after Canon MB5020 has entered service mode successfully.

  1. Prepare the printer

Resolve other errors, confirm a steady power light and enter service mode using the sequence above.

  2. Connect directly by USB

    Connect Canon MB5020 to a Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 computer without Wi-Fi or a USB hub.

  3. Start Wic Reset Connect

Run the program as Administrator and wait until the Canon service-mode device is detected.

  4. Enter the key and reset

Enter the purchased key, select Reset and keep the printer connected until confirmation appears.

Finish correctly: Wait for the success message, close Wic Reset Connect and switch Canon MB5020 off for about 10 seconds. Turn it on normally to reload the updated counter value.
If Canon MB5020 is not detected
  • Repeat the button sequence at a steady pace; releasing Power too early is a common reason service mode fails.
  • Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep internet access active for key validation.
  • Connect Canon MB5020 directly to the computer and try another data-capable USB cable or port.
  • If Windows does not detect a service-mode device, restart the printer normally, wait 10 seconds and repeat the preparation.
