Canon MG5580 Ink Absorber Full Reset

An absorber warning on Canon MG5580 does not necessarily mean that the printer is mechanically damaged. The software counter and the physical pads must be considered separately.

The problem

What the Canon MG5580 service message means

An absorber message concerns both software and maintenance. The counter can be reset, while heavily saturated pads may still need cleaning or replacement.

Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Canon MG5580. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.

Reset the counter in Canon MG5580

Work through the sequence without rushing. Incorrect button timing or a blinking power light means the printer is not ready for the counter reset.

  1. Prepare the printer

Resolve other errors, confirm a steady power light and enter service mode using the sequence above.

  2. Connect directly by USB

    Connect Canon MG5580 to a Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 computer without Wi-Fi or a USB hub.

  3. Start Wic Reset Connect

Run the program as Administrator and wait until the Canon service-mode device is detected.

  4. Enter the key and reset

Enter the purchased key, select Reset and keep the printer connected until confirmation appears.

Finish correctly: Once Wic Reset Connect reports success, turn Canon MG5580 off and on, then send a small test page.
If Canon MG5580 is not detected
  • If Windows does not detect a service-mode device, restart the printer normally, wait 10 seconds and repeat the preparation.
  • Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep internet access active for key validation.
  • Repeat the button sequence at a steady pace; releasing Power too early is a common reason service mode fails.
  • Connect Canon MG5580 directly to the computer and try another data-capable USB cable or port.
