When Epson L3278 reports that an ink pad needs service, restarting the printer alone normally does not clear the lock. A compatible reset procedure is required.
Before resetting Epson L3278
The printer protects against possible ink overflow by monitoring an internal service counter. On Epson L3278, reaching the threshold can trigger an ink pad warning and block further jobs.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for L3278 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson L3278 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson L3278.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson L3278 is not detected
- Install the original Epson driver for L3278; a generic Windows driver may not expose the required communication interface.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.

How long does the reset take?
The reset itself usually finishes in about 1–2 minutes after the printer has been detected correctly.

No. Epson printers do not use the Canon service-mode sequence. Connect the printer normally by USB.
