Epson XP-216 Reset Waste Ink Counter
The service-required message on Epson XP-216 often relates to the internal waste ink counter rather than an empty cartridge or paper fault. The steps below help you confirm and resolve that condition.
Before resetting Epson XP-216
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson XP-216 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson XP-216. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson XP-216
Prepare the computer and connection first. Most unsuccessful attempts are caused by a missing original driver, an indirect USB connection or another Epson utility using the printer.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for XP-216 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson XP-216 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson XP-216.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson XP-216 is not detected
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
- Clear paused print jobs and restart both the printer and Windows if another program is holding the USB connection.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.

How long does the reset take?
The reset itself usually finishes in about 1–2 minutes after the printer has been detected correctly.
Does Epson XP-216 need service mode?
No. Epson printers do not use the Canon service-mode sequence. Connect the printer normally by USB.

No. Wic Reset Connect requires a direct USB connection to the Windows computer.
