Epson WorkForce 520 Reset Waste Ink Counter

Epson WorkForce 520 records cleaning cycles and waste ink usage in an internal counter. When that value reaches its programmed limit, printing can stop until the counter is reset.

The problem

The counter behind the Epson WorkForce 520 warning

Every cleaning cycle sends a small amount of ink to the waste ink system. Epson WorkForce 520 adds that activity to its counter and displays a maintenance warning when the programmed threshold is reached.

Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson WorkForce 520. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.

Step by step

Reset the counter in Epson WorkForce 520

Prepare the computer and connection first. Most unsuccessful attempts are caused by a missing original driver, an indirect USB connection or another Epson utility using the printer.

  1. Install the original driver

Install the official Epson driver for WorkForce 520 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

  2. Connect directly by USB

Connect Epson WorkForce 520 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

  3. Start Wic Reset Connect

Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson WorkForce 520.

  4. Enter the key and reset

Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.

Finish correctly: Once the reset finishes, power-cycle Epson WorkForce 520 and wait until it returns to its ready state before printing.
If Epson WorkForce 520 is not detected
  • Install the original Epson driver for WorkForce 520; a generic Windows driver may not expose the required communication interface.
  • Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
  • Clear paused print jobs and restart both the printer and Windows if another program is holding the USB connection.
  • Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.

Common questions

Epson WorkForce 520 reset FAQ

Does Epson WorkForce 520 need service mode?

No. Epson printers do not use the Canon service-mode sequence. Connect the printer normally by USB.

What if the first reset attempt fails?

Correct the driver or USB communication problem first. If the key was consumed, use the new-key generator or contact support.

Does the reset clean or replace the ink pads?

No. It changes the stored counter value. Inspect, clean or replace the physical waste ink system when its condition requires it.
