The service-required message on Epson NX400 often relates to the internal waste ink counter rather than an empty cartridge or paper fault. The steps below help you confirm and resolve that condition.
The counter behind the Epson NX400 warning
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson NX400 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson NX400. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson NX400
Complete these steps in order. A direct USB connection and the original Epson driver are essential for reliable communication.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for NX400 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson NX400 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson NX400.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson NX400 is not detected
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
- Clear paused print jobs and restart both the printer and Windows if another program is holding the USB connection.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
- Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.

The reset itself usually finishes in about 1–2 minutes after the printer has been detected correctly.
