Epson R280 Reset Waste Ink Counter
A waste ink counter warning can prevent Epson R280 from printing even when the printer is otherwise working normally. Follow the checks and reset sequence below to restore operation safely.
The counter behind the Epson R280 warning
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson R280 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson R280. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson R280
The reset normally takes only a few minutes, but the printer must be detected correctly before the key is used.

Install the official Epson driver for R280 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.
-
Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson R280 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

If Epson R280 is not detected
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
- Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.
- Install the original Epson driver for R280; a generic Windows driver may not expose the required communication interface.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
