The problem

Understanding the Canon MB5400 ink absorber warning

The absorber pads collect ink generated during print-head cleaning. Canon MB5400 tracks those maintenance cycles in memory rather than measuring the pads directly.

Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Canon MB5400. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.

The counter reset normally takes only a few minutes after Canon MB5400 has entered service mode successfully.

  1. Prepare the printer

Resolve other errors, confirm a steady power light and enter service mode using the sequence above.

    Connect Canon MB5400 to a Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 computer without Wi-Fi or a USB hub.

  3. Start Wic Reset Connect

Run the program as Administrator and wait until the Canon service-mode device is detected.

Finish correctly: A successful reset is finalized with a normal restart of Canon MB5400. Confirm that the power light remains steady before printing.
If Canon MB5400 is not detected
  • Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep internet access active for key validation.
  • If Windows does not detect a service-mode device, restart the printer normally, wait 10 seconds and repeat the preparation.
  • Repeat the button sequence at a steady pace; releasing Power too early is a common reason service mode fails.
  • Connect Canon MB5400 directly to the computer and try another data-capable USB cable or port.
