Epson L656 Reset Waste Ink Counter
A waste ink counter warning can prevent Epson L656 from printing even when the printer is otherwise working normally. Follow the checks and reset sequence below to restore operation safely.
What the Epson L656 service message means
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson L656 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson L656. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson L656
Prepare the computer and connection first. Most unsuccessful attempts are caused by a missing original driver, an indirect USB connection or another Epson utility using the printer.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for L656 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson L656 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson L656.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson L656 is not detected
- Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.

How long does the reset take?
The reset itself usually finishes in about 1–2 minutes after the printer has been detected correctly.
Does the reset clean or replace the ink pads?
No. It changes the stored counter value. Inspect, clean or replace the physical waste ink system when its condition requires it.
What if the first reset attempt fails?
Correct the driver or USB communication problem first. If the key was consumed, use the new-key generator or contact support.
