Epson L4164 Reset Waste Ink Counter
If your Epson L4164 has stopped with an ink pad or service-life warning, the printer may have reached its waste ink counter limit. This model-specific guide explains what the message means and how to complete the reset with Wic Reset Connect.
The counter behind the Epson L4164 warning
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson L4164 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson L4164. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson L4164
Use the sequence below to establish a stable USB connection and clear the waste ink counter.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for L4164 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson L4164 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson L4164.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson L4164 is not detected
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
- Clear paused print jobs and restart both the printer and Windows if another program is holding the USB connection.
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
Epson L4164 reset FAQ
Does the reset clean or replace the ink pads?
No. It changes the stored counter value. Inspect, clean or replace the physical waste ink system when its condition requires it.
What if the first reset attempt fails?
Correct the driver or USB communication problem first. If the key was consumed, use the new-key generator or contact support.
Does Epson L4164 need service mode?
No. Epson printers do not use the Canon service-mode sequence. Connect the printer normally by USB.
