Epson XP-204 Reset Waste Ink Counter
A waste ink counter warning can prevent Epson XP-204 from printing even when the printer is otherwise working normally. Follow the checks and reset sequence below to restore operation safely.
Why the ink pad counter blocks Epson XP-204
During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson XP-204 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson XP-204. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
Reset the counter in Epson XP-204
Prepare the computer and connection first. Most unsuccessful attempts are caused by a missing original driver, an indirect USB connection or another Epson utility using the printer.

Install the original driver
Install the official Epson driver for XP-204 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Epson XP-204 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

Start Wic Reset Connect
Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson XP-204.

Enter the key and reset
Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.
If Epson XP-204 is not detected
- Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
- Connect the printer directly to the computer. Do not use Wi-Fi, a USB hub, docking station or print server.
- Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
- Install the original Epson driver for XP-204; a generic Windows driver may not expose the required communication interface.

Does Epson XP-204 need service mode?
No. Epson printers do not use the Canon service-mode sequence. Connect the printer normally by USB.
How long does the reset take?
The reset itself usually finishes in about 1–2 minutes after the printer has been detected correctly.
Does the reset clean or replace the ink pads?
No. It changes the stored counter value. Inspect, clean or replace the physical waste ink system when its condition requires it.
