Epson R1800 Reset Waste Ink Counter

The service-required message on Epson R1800 often relates to the internal waste ink counter rather than an empty cartridge or paper fault. The steps below help you confirm and resolve that condition.

The problem

Understanding the Epson R1800 waste ink warning

During head cleaning and normal maintenance, unused ink is directed into internal absorber pads. Epson R1800 estimates that accumulation with a software counter; it does not directly measure the physical amount of ink in the pads.

Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Epson R1800. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.

Step by step

Reset the counter in Epson R1800

Prepare the computer and connection first. Most unsuccessful attempts are caused by a missing original driver, an indirect USB connection or another Epson utility using the printer.

  1. Install the original driver

Install the official Epson driver for R1800 and confirm that Windows can see the printer.

  2. Connect directly by USB

Connect Epson R1800 to the computer without Wi-Fi, a hub or an adapter.

  3. Start Wic Reset Connect

Close Epson Status Monitor, run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and select Epson R1800.

  4. Enter the key and reset

Enter the purchased key, choose Reset and keep the printer connected until completion.

Finish correctly: Do not disconnect the cable while the reset is running. Restart Epson R1800 only after Wic Reset Connect reports that the operation is complete.
If Epson R1800 is not detected
  • Run Wic Reset Connect as Administrator and keep the internet connection active throughout validation.
  • Try another USB port and a known data-capable USB cable if the printer is not detected.
  • Install the original Epson driver for R1800; a generic Windows driver may not expose the required communication interface.
  • Close Epson Status Monitor and any other Epson maintenance software before starting Wic Reset Connect.
