Canon MG8240 may block print jobs after recording enough cleaning and maintenance cycles. Use the sequence below to enter service mode and reset the stored value.
What the Canon MG8240 service message means
Cleaning operations send unused ink into absorber pads inside the printer. Canon MG8240 estimates their usage with an electronic counter and can lock printing when that value reaches its limit.
Wic Reset Connect is designed to reset the compatible counter in Canon MG8240. The physical waste ink system should still be inspected and maintained when necessary.
How to enter service mode on Canon MG8240
- Turn the printer off.

Connect directly by USB
Connect Canon MG8240 to a Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 computer without Wi-Fi or a USB hub.

Run the program as Administrator and wait until the Canon service-mode device is detected.

Enter the purchased key, select Reset and keep the printer connected until confirmation appears.
If Canon MG8240 is not detected
- Close Canon maintenance utilities and clear paused print jobs before opening Wic Reset Connect.
- If Windows does not detect a service-mode device, restart the printer normally, wait 10 seconds and repeat the preparation.
- If the power light blinks, resolve the displayed cartridge, paper or mechanical error before trying service mode again.
- Repeat the button sequence at a steady pace; releasing Power too early is a common reason service mode fails.
